Felt ‎– The Seventeenth Century. Label: Cherry Red ‎– FLT184. Stunning remaster and sturdy pressing, but this gatefold sleeve is wafer, wafer thin. Not enough space for the album title on the spine, even. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

The Splendour of Fear is the second album by English alternative rock band Felt, released in 1984. It is a largely instrumental album based around long guitar passages inspired by classical guitar music, with only tracks 2 and 5 having any lyrics. The cover art is taken from the poster for the 1966 Andy Warhol/Paul Morrissey film Chelsea Girls, designed by Alan Aldridge

The 1986 album Let the Snakes Crinkle Their Heads to Death is a typically idiosyncratic move for the band. Coming off their biggest single to date, "Primitive Painters," it might have made more sense for the group to pursue that big pop sound further. Lawrence wasn't one to do the usual thing, however, and with new keyboardist Martin Duffy taking the place of departed guitarist Maurice Deebank as his main melodic foil, he crafted ten short musical vignettes that have all the grandeur and deep emotional content of their earlier work, but in concentrated form.

Could not wait for these remasters to come out in 2018. I love the band and always have. I must say the sound is very good but not fantastic. Vinyl quality seems to be a bit lacking but that is just my opinion. The biggest crime here though is the packaging of this masterpiece. Flimsy cheap cardboard "gatefold" style with a clear plastic insert sleeve. Hard to believe Cherry Red would skimp on this piece and then charge a premium price. As a fan I would have expected more (and the band deserves more). Still Lawrence is fantastic and the music is great so enjoy it for what it is than rather what it should have been. In my opinion this masterpiece deserved more attention to detail.
