Description

Unfortunately this is no longer in print and difficult to find, so I'm sharing it with the world. Hopefully one day, it will be reissued on vinyl.

Universal signaled its renewed interest in Snider in 2005 when its Hip-O reissue subsidiary released That Was Me: The Best of Todd Snider 1994-1998, and now New Door has brought him back into the fold. Throughout his career, he has been a charter member of popular music's club of endearing screwups, tracing back to Hank Williams and beyond, artists whose talent could not be untangled from their tendency toward bad behavior

Snider's next studio album, The Devil You Know, was released in August 2006. It marked his return to a major label, New Door Records, a subsidiary of Universal Records. The Devil You Know was named to several critics' year-end "best" lists, including a number 33 ranking in Rolling Stone magazine's top 50 albums of the year, a number 25 ranking by No Depression magazine, and number 14 by Blender magazine. Snider contributed a cover version of "A Boy Named Sue" to the 2010 Sugar Hill Records album Twistable Turnable Man, a tribute by various artists to the songwriter Shel Silverstein. Snider's songs "Late Last Night" and "I Believe You" have been recorded by the Oklahoma red dirt band Cross Canadian Ragweed. He co-wrote the song "Barbie Doll" with the country star Jack Ingram.

The Devil You Know" as written by and Todd Daniel Snider. We do not have any tags for The Devil You Know lyrics.

I know that Todd Snider has had somewhat of a career resurgence in the past few years, owing to the success of "Nashville Skyline" and "The Devil You Know" (which are, admittedly, two of his best albums). I also realize that part of his newfound success owes to the more serious tone of those albums (although anyone who thinks that Todd Snider has only recently become a "serious" artist probably isn't familiar with early songs like "I Spoke as a Child," "I Can't Complain" or even later-day gems like "Waco Moon"). I just wish he'd released one of those shows instead of this one. If you like the songs here, get the album "The Devil You Know. The versions on that album are, by and large, better than the ones here. This album is not bad, but it's definitely not the place to start.
