Midnite Vultures is the seventh studio album by American musician Beck, released on November 23, 1999 by DGC Records. While similar to most of Beck's previous albums in its exploration of widely varying styles, it did not achieve the same blockbuster success as his breakthrough album Odelay, but was still critically acclaimed and commercially successful.

Midnite Vultures,’ by contrast, lives up to the purple vinyl pants on its cover and then some. The 1999 album represents Beck at his snarkiest, funkiest and most playful, but because of the snark factor, many critics and even some fans have written it off as a big put-on.

Released November 16, 1999. Midnite Vultures Tracklist. Taking a wild turn from psychedelia, Midnite Vultures is all about funk, electronica, and soul, with a dash of Beck’s high voice. It’s about as crazy as you can get in El Lay. Sexx Laws, the opener, blares fat brass soul and funk, with Beck’s psychedelic, high voice. Get Real Paid, a sampled, bubbly electronica track, mixes dance and nonsense like an ice cream, while Nicotine & Gravy is a funky back-road of psychedelia and drugs, Pressure Zone is a rocky road of hard rock and weird life.

This was the album I was most excited to listen to in his discography. Hearing that this was a "funk record" really intrigued me, because I had no idea how Beck would sound doing a funk record. It wasn't as funky as i was expecting but it definitely does have elements of it. This is a very colorful album, with tons of varied instruments and sounds. Most of the songs are around 5 minutes long and still not much time is wasted with so many new sounds occuring within them.

Yes, Midnite Vultures is Beck's sex album. The lyrics remain as delightfully obtuse (has anyone ever worn a ''hepatitus contact lense''?), yet it also proved that the mutant funk evident on the best cuts of Odelay were no accident. Numbers like Nicotine And Gravy or Sexx Laws showed the boy to be as danceable as hell. While the final cut: the marathon lovefest, Debra showed him taking a stab at Al Green or James Brown territory. It's a feisty and fun jaunt through the imagination of an imp just as perverse as the Purple One. This work is licensed under a Creative.
