He was inspired to perform as a DJ by his brother Tony, a member of the Blackstones, who topped the reggae album charts with Take Another Look At Love. Inspired by his love of music, Douglas embarked on a recording career, initially under the pseudonym Imperial Keith.

Keith Douglas was the most talented - and overlooked - poet of the second world war. Owen Sheers explains how his new play aims to bring this complex man to life. However, Douglas remains a poet who is recognised in the literary and academic worlds, but whose work has never registered on the wider public consciousness in the same way as the first world war poetry of Wilfred Owen or Siegfried Sassoon. Unlike the poets of that conflict, Douglas was denied the privilege of writing anti-war poetry.

8 poems of Keith Douglas. For others, Douglas's work is powerful and unsettling because its exact descriptions eschew egotism and shift the burden of emotion from the poet to the reader. His best poetry is generally considered to rank alongside the twentieth-century's finest soldier-poetry. In his poem, "Desert Flowers" (1943), Douglas mentions World War I poet Isaac Rosenberg claiming that he is only repeating what "Isaac" has already.
