The Gardening Club by Martin Springett, released 09 February 2015. Martin Springett is an author/illustrator /musician living and working in Toronto. Born in the U K Martin emigrated to Canada but returned to London in the early 70's to pursue a music career. He toured and recorded in Europe and England, designed L P covers for CBS (Sony) records, and eventually returned to Canada to follow a career in art and illustration. He has recorded six C D'. .

The Gardening Club cover art. The album is far from Springett’s first musical endeavour. He toured Europe in bands in the 70s, even recording an LP of . Tolkien’s lyrics set to music, a project kiboshed by the author’s son Christopher Tolkien, who had no time for rock. This lush record from 1983, then – filled with glimmering 12-strings, pastoral instrumentals, complex three-part songs, pop hooks and singable choruses – was Springett’s first major release. So, despite critical praise and a music video for single Andromeda by future Juno winner Philip Kates, who would go on to direct memorable videos for Blue Rodeo, Jeff Healey and Sarah McLachlan, The Gardening Club went largely unnoticed.

Martin Springett has deep artistic roots in the city of Victoria, joining his first bands and beginning his artistic career here as well. He created the iconic Munro's Bookmark which has been in use since 1971). In 1983, Springett is living in Toronto and releases his own album: The Gardening Club. A musically rich and diverse album, The Gardening Club combined King Crimson-like complexity, Canterbury scene-infused whimsy, and a strong pop sensibility, but in the shadow of new wave it was the right album, at the wrong time.
