Meat Loaf visits the NYSE to celebrate the recent release of his new CD album, "Hang Cool Teddy Bear.

Hang Cool Teddy Bear is the tenth studio album by Meat Loaf. It was released on 19 April 2010 by Mercury Records in the UK and by Loud & Proud Records in the US on 11 May 2010, with global distribution handled by Universal Music Group. The album was produced by Rob Cavallo, and contains songs written by Justin Hawkins, Rick Brantley and Jon Bon Jovi, amongst others. Guests on the album include Brian May, Steve Vai, Patti Russo, Hugh Laurie, Jack Black, and Pearl Aday.

Hang Cool Teddy Bear may not be an explicit sequel to Bat Out of Hell - not in its title or in its composition, with Meat Loaf once again parting ways with Jim Steinman, the architect of the Bat songs - but it sure has enough bombast to trick anybody into thinking it’s the fourth volume of Bat. It’s not, of course: unlike those three career-defining records, Hang Cool Teddy Bear boasts an actual narrative - a hazy, unformed tale of a wounded soldier - instead of merely being conceptual, a difference that should give the album shape particularly when married with Rob Cavallo’s crisp, bright.

Half good, half bad, a bloated mish-mash of styles and sounds hobbled together for the sake of being edgy, the album never finds its identity. Meat tries as much as he can, giving a terrific performance for a man in his 60s, but he can't save the album from imploding as the structure gives way. Turning the guitars up isn't the problem, nor is trying to explore new musical territory. As always, the problem is the same as it has always been; without Steinman controlling the material, Meat simply can't.
