A very under-rated release. Fast chaotic black metal at it's best. The drumming awesome, fast and very organic sounding, and the vocals range from shouts, screams and death metal growls.

Drautran's Throne Of The Depths is the soundtrack to all of your epic fantasies. But let me be clear here - this isn't Rhapsody Of Fire, so put your buttless chaps away. This also isn't Darkthrone. Drautran, hailing from Germany, create a fresh mix of black metal that's epic, and yet also menacing and evil. It's a little hard to categorize the sound, because, well, it's not entirely symphonic. It's not entirely tremolo picking either. But let's start with what it is - pretty great music. There's not much to dislike about this album, or this band, if you're into black metal. As far as I know, they're not Satanists, or Nazis, they're just making good music. It can get a little boring at times, maybe even a little overwhelming, but in the end, it's definitely a good album. Check it out, and don't forget your black robes.

Listening to Drautran's Throne of the Depths feels like voyaging to an ancient kingdom on the ocean floor, being carried by furious torrents and soothing currents along the way. From the first moments of calm underwater surroundings presented within the introduction, one is already summoned in an instant right to where Drautran intended: At The Throne of the Depths. Prepare yourself, for a fair amount of sea-related puns are visible on the horizon. Unfortunately, this remains Drautran's only full length album released to date, although they did release an excellent demo in 2000 titled Unter Dem Banner Der Nordwinde which features all the same elements presented on Throne of the Depths, and is definately worth checking out.

With their mixture of furious Nordic Black Metal with captivating melodies and acoustic elements on their 2000 demo "Unter dem Banner der Nordwinde," Drautran set standards not only in Germany. This band from Kiel was founded in 1996 and sets the primal forces of Nature to music, an approach not unlike that of the early works of Emperor or Enslaved.
