The 13th Floor Elevators were an American rock band from Austin, Texas, formed by guitarist and vocalist Roky Erickson, electric jug player Tommy Hall, and guitarist Stacy Sutherland. The band was together from 1965 to 1969, and during that period released four albums and seven singles for the International Artists record label. The Elevators were the first band to refer to their music as psychedelic rock, with the first-known use of the term appearing on their business card in January 1966.

Live is a 1968 studio album by the American psychedelic rock band the 13th Floor Elevators. In an interview the band cited that the album was essentially made up of studio outtakes that were overdubbed with phony cheering and applause. The album is lowly regarded and was put together by the International Artists label to make extra money with little to no input from the band. At the time of its release it was hailed as "one of the finest releases of the year" in Mass Media

Another single from the album, "Reverberation (Doubt)", reached number 129 on the Billboard's Bubbling Under Chart. The November 1966 album title is purported to be the first use of the word "psychedelic" in reference to the music within  . After a failed attempt to record a live album by the Austin psychedelic rockers, the band’s label did something that probably made sense in 1968: added applause and crowd noise to a set of studio outtakes.
