World-renowned jazz pianist and composer Duke Ellington's collaboration with saxophonist John Coltrane, aptly titled Duke Ellington and John Coltrane is such an album. Every second drips with joy, a truly excellent display of the talents and musicality of two of jazz music's best known players. The album has a duality in that, while it can be enjoyed up front and when listened to for the express purpose of listening to it, it can also be played in the background and liven up and relax the mood of and entire room, even through a casual listen.

The classic 1962 album Duke Ellington & John Coltrane is introducing the rising jazz saxophone innovator performing with the long-established piano institution Duke Ellington. Sublime and timeless music. The Duke wrote five tunes, Coltrane one (Big Nick), and Billy Strayhorn (My Little Brown Book). Both musicians, along with their rhythm sections, were great. The Duke's piano playing is more prominent due to the smaller combos.

The classic 1962 album Duke Ellington & John Coltrane showcased the rising jazz saxophone innovator performing alongside the long-established piano institution. While the pairing might have portended a dynamic clash of the musical generations, instead we got a casual, respectful, and musically generous meeting of like-minded souls
