The World of Duke Ellingt. has been added to your Cart. The program of this last of three Ellington concerts at the MusikTriennale Cologne 94 is focused on the later works (), but also contains new arrangements of Ellington and Strayhorn titles from the entire period of the Ellington orchestra. These new arrangements are, on the one hand, a personal summary of this concert series that was dedicated to Duke Ellington in this first year of the MusikTriennale. On the other hand, they serve as a platform for the featured guest of the evening, Phil Woods.

Joe Lovano, WDR Big Band 2005 Duke Ellington's Sound Of Love.

Great Duke Ellington Music + Excellent Musicians Musical Success! The artists involved did a marvelous job: The vocal arrangements were exciting and tasteful. Sampling of audience applause was done tastefully and enhances the listening experience. Recorded sound is detailed and transparent with rich bass. However, the dynamics are very compressed. That is, the levels are so high, your ears become bored (from the lack of contrast) and fatigued in the second half of the program. Overall, this SACD is recommended based on great Ellington content and excellent playing by WDR Big Band Köln
