Several of his first major orchestral works, including the Enigma Variations and the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, were greeted with acclaim. He also composed oratorios, chamber music, symphonies and instrumental concertos. He was knighted at Buckingham Palace on 5 July 1904 and appointed Master of the King's Music in 1924.

Australian WRC 3rd/4th/5th/6th/7th pressing, sourced from original stampers and featuring unique sleeve art. Reissue of STW-504. This was issued in a variety of sleeves - same design, different colours - blue, salmon, brown, cerise, green and light pink. The grey-blue was no doubt the first, identifiable by the laminate strip down the right side of the rear of the sleeve, and there were known reissues in June 1978 and June 1979.
