The voice is there, the drive is there, the lyrics are there, but this is not the Cracker I grew up on. Aside from the songs Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out With Me, and Darling One, this release could easily be mistaken for a new Clash, if not Green Day album. Dave’s voice is still rough, sounding as if he’s never taken a cigarette out of his mouth, or breathed a breath of clean air, and the guitar playing is top notch, with due consideration given to the structure and format. but there are way too many edges for me to wrap my head around, or even want to consider. All but gone is the lush classic guitar work that first brought the band to my attention, replaced by a diametric meshing of the old Cracker and some terrific punk sensibilities. but I can’t, and I won’t.
I am an objective Cracker fan, you don't see that often, and I love this album as much as anything they've ever done. What a surprisingly fun, old school Cracker album that just makes you happy.

Well sunrise on the river in the city I'm feeling pretty shitty In the wreckage of my life. So if you want to live; Let's live together In bows and feathers. And find my decadence And if you want to dare Well we can take that long road Cause dying is easy, It's living that's hard. Well sunrise in the land of milk and honey
Sunrise is jam-packed with memorable hooks and smart, sarcastic songwriting. Yalla Yalla (Let’s Go) and Show Me How This Thing Works establishes their aggressive side with the sweeter stoner ballad Turn On Tune In Drop Out With Me taking a standard chord progression and melody and making it fresh with Lowery’s enthusiasm. Hand Me My Inhaler rejuvenates punk rock. Friends with Drive-By Truckers’ Patterson Hood explores country. Cracker occupies an interesting alternative crossroads, neither too weird nor too pop to fit comfortably with the crowd.
Cracker, the group that veritably introduced brash irreverence and irony into alt-rock, are back and in top form on their 429 Records debut, Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey. This rich new trove of sharp-witted songs showcases a bristling, late 70’s – early 80’s power pop punk aesthetic which hits as hard as it did at the band’s formation 17 years ago. Eight albums (one platinum and three gold) and a barrel full of anthemic hit songs later, Cracker endures, using their ability to weave decades of influences into an album that is seamlessly riveting.
