Description

Tito Puente And His Orchestra: все альбомы, включая Tito Puente and His Orchestra: Puentes Goes Jazz, Be Mine Tonight, Cuban Carnival и другие.

Tito Puente was never one for half measures, and even in death there's no modesty involved, as the label calls him King of Kings. It might be an exaggeration, but only a slight one, and it gets the attention. Still, as the saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and there's a hearty meal here, albeit one missing one or two choice dishes, like Puente's original version of "Oye Como Va," a song that indirectly brought him a whole new audience. However, "Honk Kong Mambo" is here, "Dance Mania," and "Dance of the Headhunters,".

Summarizing Tito Puente's numerous accomplishments on a single CD would be impossible. El Rey del Timbal!, a 1997 disc spanning 1949-1987, barely scratches the surface - but for Puente, a five-CD box set would also only scratch the surface. But this gem-laden collection does illustrate just how remarkably consistent the salsa legend was during the course of 38 years. El Rey del Timbal! kicks into high gear with 1949's "Ran-Kan-Kan" before treating listeners to such essential 1950s recordings as "Cao-Cao Mani Picao," "Cual Es Tu Idea," "Agua Limpia.

Tito Puente was born on April 20, 1923, at Harlem Hospital Center in the New York borough of Manhattan. His family moved frequently, but he spent the majority of his childhood in the Spanish Harlem area of the city As a child, he was described as hyperactive, and after neighbors complained of hearing seven-year-old Puente beating on pots and window frames, his mother sent him to 25-cent piano lessons. By the age of 10, he switched to percussion, drawing influence from jazz drummer Gene Krupa  . Dance Mania, possibly Puente's most well known album, was released in 1958. Notes

One of the finest Tito Puente compilations available, 2002's KING OF KINGS presents 21 tracks recorded by the beloved New York City-born percussionist/bandleader between 1956 and '60, the height of the mambo craze. With his playful persona and energetic drumming, Puente had the technical mastery to back up his remarkably wide appeal, as heard on infectiously rhythmic, horn-laden numbers such as "Dance Mania," "Mambo Gozon," and "Yambeque."

All tracks have been digitally remastered.
