Patti Austin, ‘Every Home Should Have One’ (1981). Patti Austin sang backups on George Benson’s Give Me the Night, but Jones was acquainted with her long before that. A child prodigy who first sang on the stage of the Apollo at four years old, she knew Jones since birth, thanks to her father, jazz trombonist Gordon Austin. Jones, in fact, is her godfather – and that family connection inevitably grew into a collaboration.
