Art of Doubt is the seventh studio album by Canadian indie rock band Metric, which was released on 21 September 2018. The first single, "Dark Saturday", was released on 13 July 2018, followed by "Dressed to Suppress" on 26 July, and "Now or Never Now" on 4 September. On 13 September NPR published a live stream of the album. Art of Doubt was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, and recorded at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles, and at Metric's own studio, Giant Studio in Toronto.

With Art of Doubt, the band’s seventh album, Metric returns to more of a rock sound after having dabbled in a more synth-oriented sound on their previous record, 2015’s Pagans in Vegas. The album was officially announced on July 17th, 2017, on the day the music video for lead single Dark Saturday was also released. Only the opening track (Dark Saturday) and the total number of tracks (12) were announced at the time, with no mention of the title of the album or of the other songs

In celebration of the album release, the band has also dropped video for "Now or Never Now," the newest single from the record. The video for "Now or Never Now" goes against the common mood typically associated with nightclubs. Instead of an environment that is about fun, partying and excitement, Metric challenges the idea by showing frontwoman Emily Haines as a sad partygoer. Haines is left to her own devices, navigating the nightclub scenes and the early dawn of the morning by her lonesome

With Art of Doubt, Metric somehow anticipated the needs o. veryone in the world? OK, that’s a little sweeping; how about America and its affected neighbors? The album opens with Dark Saturday a foreboding, guitar-driven track that served as the lead single for Art of Doubt. But the chorus has a buoyancy to it, and the lyrics deal with a lot of juxtapositions. Dressed to Suppress was another track released months ahead of the album. They live debuted it Louisville on tour, then released the single in July. The band had this to say about the song: "Lyrically, the song explores the maze of conflicts we encounter in our attempts at finding and holding onto love; the absurd mating rituals we routinely perform; and the vast divide between the desires our appearances can imply and the way we actually feel inside. At this point in the album, I always want to go back to the top.
