Rock n Roll is the fourth studio album by Ryan Adams, released on November 4, 2003. The album features the hit single "So Alive", and includes guest appearances by Adams's then girlfriend, actress Parker Posey, former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bass player Melissa Auf der Maur, and Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. Adams describes the album as "the most rock thing I have ever done," and notes that in spite of the album's mixed reception, recording it was "fun as fuck.

Adams' latest, Rock N Roll, feels sloppy and stupidly rushed; recorded in less than two weeks, the record is so blatantly dismissive of both itself and its audience that it insults nearly everyone who attempts to interact with it. Adams' original scheduled-for-2003 release, the largely anticipated Love Is Hell, was clumsily manhandled by Lost Highway labelheads before finally being split into two separate EPs (respectively subtitled Part I and Part II ; Part I was released simultaneously with this album), leaving Adams a comparably small window of time in which to record the proper.

Wearing his intentions on his sleeve in a nearly cynical manner, Adams called the album Rock N Roll, though in a fit of rebellious piss and vinegar, the artwork has it displayed as a mirror image: Llor n Kcor, which isn't quite Efil4zaggin, but the spirit is nonetheless appreciated.

Ryan Adams Format: DVD Audio. This is not a symphony, an opera, a John Cage composition. This is exactly what it was labelled to be: Rock and Roll. Ryan has put together a collection of rollicking, hard rocking, fun music. Much has been made of the tips of the hat that he makes to other bands.

Rock n Roll - Despite being the title track, it is funnily enough the antithesis of stereotypical loud, brash rock music. A dispirited take on life as a rock star, it is both lyrical and musically simplistic but also honest and depressing. When listened outside of the context of Ryan Adams' other work, this album can kinda work. Take warning of any song cowritten by Parker Posey, especially Note to Self Don't Die (my vote for all time worst Ryan Adams song). So Alive" & "Burning Photographs" are the best songs (my personal fav is Burning Photos). Does Anybody Wanna Take Me Home?" is good, but the better version is on Love Is Hell.

Rock your world with Rock 'n' roll! First I heard "So alive", and I knew I'll become a fan of Ryan. After having got into Ryan Adams via Gold, I next heard his album Rock 'n' Roll and loved it, it's raw, fast paced and full of energy maybe they just prefer the dark and quieter side to his material. Nevertheless I recommend this album 110% to everyone, some great tracks like This Is It, Wish You Were Here, So Alive & Anybody Wanna Take Me Home. by seany t04 Jan, 2007.
