Description

Album · 1994 · 3 Songs.

Anti EP is an EP by British electronic music duo Autechre, released by Warp on 3 September 1994. It peaked at number 90 on the UK Singles Chart, as well as number 39 on the UK Dance Singles Chart. It is the only explicitly political record Autechre have released.

Continuing in the same vain as Incunabula, though much more club music inspired, Anti EP is not only a bold statement by the duo, but also as a sort of first step into their later, wildly experimental and left field music. Sweet synth chords fluttering above the layered percussion that drives this ep. It's by no means something to skip over in their discography, as it is just as good, if not better than their debut.

The Anti EP contains 3 tracks that were created around the same time Amber was being recorded. Apparently this EP was created to basically spit in the faces of those who didn't agree with group gatherings where people listened to music with repetetive beats. Lost and Djarum (which by the way has a sound in it that closely resembles their song "Montreal" from the Amber album. This track could possibly be an inspiration for that track) contain the typical Autechre Repetetive beats, while Flutter is a more spaced out, ambient piece. Reply See 1 reply Notify me 5 Helpful.

Listen free to Autechre – Anti EP (Lost, Djarum and more). Printed on sticker placed as a seal: Warning. Lost and Djarum contain repetitive beats. We advise you not to play these tracks if the Criminal Justice Bill becomes law. Flutter has been programmed in such a way that no bars contain identical beats and can therefore be played at both forty five and thirty three revolutions under the proposed new law. However we advise DJs to have a lawyer and musicologist present at all times to confirm the non repetitive nature of the music in the event of police harrassment. A new version of Last.

Amber is the second studio album by English electronic music duo Autechre. It was released on 7 November 1994 by Warp Records. It was the first Autechre album to be composed entirely of new material, as their debut album Incunabula was a compilation of older tracks

rasputin: I'm not sure either, but it is safe to say that even if you don't like some of their albums, chances are there will still be a couple of others that you do. They're each pretty unique. Zettel: yes, some level of judgement is necessary.

"Lost" is a neat track and I'm not too crazy about "Djarum", but "Flutter"... wow. I've listened to quite a bit of Autechre - this was actually the first Autechre track I ever heard - but this has to be the prettiest sounding track that they've ever made. In the chaotic anti-rave bill influenced beats, the ambient, almost nostalgic (and perhaps even flutter-y :>) melodies keep a serene, almost fantastical mood all throughout before fading into a dreamlike wall of reverberated sound in its last moments. One of Autechre's most interesting releases. I would pick it up for Flutter alone.Highlights: "Flutter"

"Lost" is mad dark Autechre business, I played it loads "Djarum" is more hard techno"Flutter" erratic whispering breaks, skipping about all over the placeBeats are arranged with no repetition in order to meet the regulations of a mental new law, this evil "puritan" law mean't no playback of repetitive beats. So Autechre had their breakbeat bleepy, acid techno origins fit perfectly into this scenario. This EP however, it's release actually did educate more people about the ruthless government bill than the mainstream media could cater.Sheer quality of these earlier tracks

Electronic music has never been so political and politics never so musical again after this release.

The 'Ambient Soho' shop had just closed, damn we were too late and already bags half full of cakes from other shops in the area but the little Indian girl owner (which I later learned isn't Indian but South African and named Chantal) felt we weren't from the U.K. and so couldn't visit that shop so often... She was still in the shop with the long bold clerk and two other clients hanging. She came back at the door and let us in, closing back directly after us. What was currently playing there was so amazing, that I stared at the clerk and asked directly for that record. He told me 'No', I felt like falling down in the abyss, 'I can't sell it, it's not out yet, it's a test-pressing'. I insisted as I found that track so great 'I need it now, I know white labels, I buy lots of these, this one is fantastic, I can't leave without it, please, I'll pay you 3 times or your price, whatever'. 'I'm really sorry, I can't do that'. 'Well I'll have to wait until it's out then, test or not it has to be' I concluded, then asked 'Who did this?' (I didn't recognised directly Autechre's music, even if I had previous cakes from them) and while I was totally under the sonic effect of this piece the guy at the turntable pointed me at these two guys in the shop 'They did it' and my all space travelling mate 'Eiffel' gave the duo our little label contact card. 'Ow! These are the guys from the blue record' he told, pointing the logo to his companion: 'Aah! yeah.'. 'What does he said?' asked Eiffel to me, 'They know our records' This is Rob and Sean ... I returned on the continent without this back then yet not officially released "Anti EP" but we had unforgettable good time at Megatripolis where I got tuned for too long into a Californian VJ software named Bliss. Back home I urgently broke up the seal, as an opposition to the Criminal Justice Bill and of course because I could not wait any longer to listen to that new Autechre. Each records brings his memories ... memories can't wait.p.s. edit: How can some ppl disagree on the above? I was just telling an anecdote!

I love this release. It was the first Autechre I ever bought. At the time(1994?), I was totally into acid, 4/4 stompers and very "traditional" detroit. I played this and was blown away. Opened my eyes.
