The Clash is the debut studio album by English punk rock band the Clash. It was released on 8 April 1977 through CBS Records. Written and recorded over three weeks in February of 1977 for a paltry £4,000, it would go one to reach on the UK charts, and has been included on many retrospective rankings as one of the greatest punk albums of all time
Appears identical to The Story Of The Clash Volume 1 in disc artwork, packaging, matrices etc, however that version includes a CDM code in a circle under the LC code on the rear artwork, this does not. Double Jewel Case. Printed in Holland (On backcover). The Clash - Should I Stay Or Should I Go 4:56.
While there may be many worthy tunes missing, nothing here is undeserving of inclusion, and its expansive method of operation works in its favor, since it hints at the richness of the Clash's music. After all, it's no great loss to have such official singles as "Hitsville .

The Clash was undoubtedly the most far-reaching band to emerge from the tattered punk scene, which is now strewn with as many victims as survivors. But there were no Sid Viciouses in the Clash; although the band itself may have fallen prey to the same kinetic and implosive energy that brought it to life, both Joe Strummer (writing film scores) and Mick Jones (leading . have continued vigorous careers. This double-album collection (with its promising sphinxlike subtitle and hysterical Brit-gonzo liner notes, by one Albert Transom, a supposed Clash valet) is stronger than any single Clash album. The cumulative effect of listening to this fearless and spirited evidence of the Clash’s vitality only makes the band’s dissolution more regretful. One wonders what inner tensions led to the group’s breakup.
In some ways, the double-disc, 28-track compilation The Story of the Clash, Vol. 1 does its job quite well - if the job is indeed presenting a relatively thorough overview for casual fans.
