Undertow is the second album by Blind Idiot God, released in 1989 through Enemy Records. All music composed by Andy Hawkins, except "Alice in My Fantasies" by George Clinton and Eddie Hazel and "Purged Specimen" by John Zorn. Adapted from the Undertow liner notes.

For its third and apparently final recording, the high-voltage instrumental power trio Blind Idiot God joined John Zorn 's Avant label, though retaining Bill Laswell as producer and changing the band's overall sound and direction not a bit. One might have expected that Zorn, who guested on Blind Idiot God 's previous release, could have steered the trio toward more overtly experimental ground, but the band instead continued with its unique mixture of anthemic hardcore explosions and spacy, sensual, dub-influenced ruminations.

Blind Idiot God- from our Planned Parenthood benefit compilation, which is ongoing. with their life- changing sound since our youth- For 32 years the band has been creating timeless, boundary-defying instrumental music. Blind Idiot God have a long history as forbearers of modern varieties of tech/prog music. The band explores, innovates, and defies convention and expectations. They create music for its own sake, and have never wavered from their original groundbreaking approach. Video from Blind Idiot God's remastered rerelease of the album Undertow. Cyclotron is the third album by Blind Idiot God, released in 1992 through Avant Records. It became the band's final studio album for twenty-three years after drummer Ted Epstein left the band in 1996, causing the band to go on an indefinite hiatus Composer Bill Laswell, who had worked with the band on their previous album, returned to fill production duties. Guitarist Andy Hawkins began utilizing more feedback and looping techniques in the music, which he would further explore on Halo, his.

Blind Idiot God (album). Blind Idiot God. Studio album by Blind Idiot God. Released. But, midway through, the melodies tend to be twisted and pulled like taffy, elongating into mutant forms only hinted at previously.

My adoration of Blind Idiot God began when I was merely a tot. Their 1987 self-titled album provided me with a sound I had already been thirsting for. Sans the human voice, power guitar that played more with harmolodics and song structure than it did with macho(?) virtuoso breaks. Ted Epstein's drumming, whether intricate clockwork or jazzy improv, is exquisite music in itself. On this album the band often lets his rhythms punch through, exposed, giving some tracks a free jazz session spin to them. Andy Hawkins' guitar spans worlds yet unknown before listening to this album.

Thunderhead is the most intense song ever written by anyone in the history of modern music.

Completely agree. The song is brilliant and when the faster portion starts at about 2:29, it's positively transcendent.

Great. I much prefer the heavy tracks on this album than the old stuff. The guitar on Slackjaw is amazing, and the tone is perfect. The Major dub track is a bit sickly but the other dub is up there with the best, especially Hangtime. Don't expect anything Naked City like, i don't know what that guy is quite saying. It's mainly just heavy rock and dub, but it is not really all over the place genre splicing like Zorn's work. Brilliant album thought, get it if you can find a copy!

Agreed, awesome album, not much else there like this that combines all those different musical styles and influences.

How is it possible to combine metal, experimental music and dub in one album ? Few bands can take so many styles, mix them and get decent results. BIG final record is exactly that - melting pot of styles, rhythms and atmospheres. "Cyclotron" starts out with extremely fast "747" and reaches its conclusion with slow and echoing "Dead Continent Dub". One comparison might be John Zorn's Naked City (and its no coincidence - since this guys were working with Zorn a lot). But whereas Naked City was about in-your-face experimentation and extremely short songs, Blind Idiot God have more song-like approach and this trio also have great musical skills, all of which are shown on "Cyclotron".
