Description

This is the full-length show performed by the Rolling Stones on the fifth and final leg of the Bridges To Babylon Tour, at Weserstadion on September 2, 1998.

The Rolling Stones' 1971 UK Tour was a brief concert tour of England and Scotland that took place over three weeks in March 1971. The Stones had not staged a tour proper in their homeland since autumn 1966. Now they were going out after having announced on the day of their first show that they were becoming tax exiles and decamping to the South of France, which they did shortly after finishing the tour. As a result, this tour was also called the Good-Bye Britain Tour or formulations thereof.

Why did the Stones call this album Some Girls? "Because we couldn't remember their fucking names," as Richards put it at the time. The title song remains one of the Stones' funniest moments, as Jagger sings about the hard work of womanizing, pursued by groupies who take his money and take his clothes. Largely written in a hotel room during their 1965 tour of Ireland, this modest fingerpicked folk shuffle feels like a throwaway (it appeared on the 1967 outtakes set, Flowers). A lush stax/volt soul ballad via Jamaican reggae, this may be best known for its music video, featuring Jagger and Richards playing with a bottle of Jack Daniel's close at hand. The Rolling Stones' '81 tour found the band evolving. Gone were the dark days of ’70s, replaced by the bright colors and arena spectacle of the ’80s. Amidst the album’s release, the Stones started practicing for the fall tour, which Jagger formally announced at a Philadelphia press conference. Following a small, warm-up gig in Worcester, Mass. the band launched its 1981 American Tour with two shows at Philly’s JFK Stadium on Sept. The concerts also featured Jagger in a cherry picker tossing out flowers during Jumpin’ Jack Flash and a massive balloon launch. As for the music, fans remain divided over the merits of the Stones’ ’81 sound. Some see this era of the band as a wiry outfit’s last gasp, before big horn sections and a row of background singers joined up. But others disliked the Stones’ thin sound and Jagger’s barking delivery of the band’s classic tunes.
