Rush is the debut studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on March 1, 1974 by the band's own label Moon Records in Canada and by Mercury Records in the United States and internationally. Their first release shows much of the hard rock sound typical of many of the popular rock bands emerging earlier in the decade. Rush were fans of such bands as Led Zeppelin and Cream, and these influences can be heard in most of the songs on the album.

Deciding the best Rush album is a near impossible task. On one hand, you have a perfect meld of Rush's 70's and 80's era in Moving Pictures. On the other, you have their absolute classic album and the recording that cemented them as a prog rock powerhouse, 2112, with that legendary masterpiece of a title track. On the other hand, you could say the vast amounts of experimentation on Hemispheres resulting in quite possibly the greatest rock instrumental ever, La Villa Strangiato, takes the cake for pinnacle Rush album. This dark rush album is great. The opener, Distant Early Warning would give Subdivisions a run for its money. I must admit that this album was my first introduction to Rush so there may be some nostalgia at work in my fondness for it.

I used to know the chap who wrote these tunes, infact the first draft was done on my old Commodore Amiga (!). The main track samples Jon of the Pleased Wimmin's Track Passion, and the B side is a kind of mash up of Hedgehog affair part 4 and Manix - Feel real good's Piano riff. Both were good tunes when first written, but by the time they were released the scene had changed to a much more techno edged hardcore from the breakbeats that thease tracks were based on, so the tune didnt sell so well. I think total income from the track was around £60.. I remeber doing a PA with Russ (RUSH GEE) at the Penguin Club in Southampton although I had nothing to do with the tracks, and none of the synths were plugged in, hilarious! Anyway I would feel bad if I didnt make a comment on the track so I have!
