Both the band and the author released product under this same title in early 1996, and the album is a collection of songs that loosely reflect the themes of the book. Like the Mekons albums of the mid-'80s, Pussy has country and blues overtones, only all of the elements are shifted into something unusual and jarring. It's a slight album in their catalog, but it certainly is interesting for fans. Acker brings out the Mekons' savage female side-with Jon Langford's vocals taking a back seat to Sally Timms's singing and Susie Honeyman's shrill fiddle-while the Mekons bring Acker's lyrics into a new, sensual realm without compromising the power of her naked words. This album is an excellent expose for her book of the same title. Acker and the Mekons do an excellent job of finding different styles of music to fit with the different moods of the book. Acker's literature is reknowned for its avant-garde method of "plagiarism" (she blatantly steals from other authors and restructures their ideas to fit her own); this album is no different. Many songs sound like other songs-of various genres-that you might have heard before
