The album featured one of Jackson's most famous songs, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?," as well as the title track "Look Sharp", "Sunday Papers" and "One More Time. The cover, featuring a pair of white shoes, ranked number 22 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 greatest album covers of all time.

The Joe Jackson Band released I'm the Man in 1979. It did produce the single "It's Different for Girls", which became Jackson's highest charting UK single, peaking at no. 5. Beat Crazy followed in 1980 Jackson at El Mocambo, Toronto, 21 May 1979. In 1981, Jackson produced an album for the British power pop group the Keys  . Titles that were reissued are: Night and Day, I'm The Man, Look Sharp! and, for the first time on vinyl, Summer in the City Personal life.

Really punchy, decent soundstage, and clear definition to Maby's bass.

Clearly this album was a cathartic experience for Joe-track upon track shows him letting off a ton of steam, & when you match this with the consistently deathless hooks, & punchy performances from the original Joe.

If Costello began his career as a New-Wave rocker rooted in punk rock and London pub rock, then Jackson's early music was New Wave rooted in '50s rock'n'roll and Motown/Phil Spector pop. The reason this album remains a classic is because it has great pop melodies, the kind that never really get old. Joe Jackson narrates the great tunes with some excellent, self-deprecating lyrics.
