The foundations of the Strauss musical dynasty began with Johann Strauss I, born in Leopoldstadt, Vienna. Orphaned by the age of 12, the young Johann was apprenticed to a bookbinder while taking lessons in the violin and viola. 2. Joseph Lanner (1801-1843). Johann Strauss I eventually managed to secure a place in a local orchestra leading to his joining the popular Lanner Quartet formed by his would-be rival Joseph Lanner. Together they popularised Viennese waltzes and rustic German dances. 3. Reforming the waltz. Some of Johann Strauss II's most famous works include The Blue Danube, Kaiser-Walzer, Tales from the Vienna Woods, and the a. Among his operettas, Die Fledermaus and The Gypsy Baron are the best known. 10. Eclipsing his father's success.

1. Tales Of The Vienna Woods. Composed By – Johann Strauss (Son). Roses From The South. 4. Tritsch-Tratsch Polka. 5. Dorfschwalben Aus Österreich Waltz. Composed By – Josef Strauss. 6. Eljen A Magyar (Hungarian Polka). 7. Schatz Waltz From "The Gypsy Baron".

Vienna, the waltz, and the Strauss family are inseparable entities. The waltzes of Johann Strauss II. (1804-49) evoked the air of the Viennese countryside, beer gardens, and Heurigen. Those of his eldest son, Johann J. at first had the same rhythmic vitality and brief melodies. After 1860, however, this would change. The younger Strauss infused the traditional waltz with a new vitality and sophistication that reflected the glittery, hedonistic spirit of nineteenth century imperial Vienna. Arguably, the most important of these is Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald (Tales From the Vienna Woods), Op. 325, one of Strauss' most famous waltzes. The Wienerwald evokes not so much the Vienna Woods themselves as it does the Austrian Heurigen, small establishments outside Vienna that serve partially aged wine and food associated with the countryside.

Tales from the Vienna Woods" (German: "Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald", occasionally "G'schichten aus dem Wienerwald") is a waltz by Johann Strauss II. Composed in 1868, "Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald", Op. 325, was one of six Viennese waltzes by Johann Strauss II which featured a virtuoso part for zither. The title of Strauss' dance recalls the folk music of the inhabitants of the Vienna Woods.

The waltz's premiere that year reiterated the ascendancy that the dance had made from its humble village origins to become one of the pleasures of fashionable Viennese society, largely thanks to the performing and composing talents of the Strauss dynasty
