Based on their debut mini-album, Lights from the Wheelhouse, the Late Cord may be one of the most quintessentially 4AD-sounding new artists that the label has signed in the 2000s. As melancholy as Lights from the Wheelhouse can be, it's also oddly inviting.

The results of the new sessions of the material were released as an EP in early 2005, with a European tour in support of the material. Hinson was playfully punched in the small of his back by a friend, causing back. pain that was unalleviated by surgery  . In July 2006, Hinson formed The Late Cord with John Mark Lapham of the Earlies. Their five track ., Lights from the Wheelhouse was released on the 4AD record label. Hinson released his second album, Micah P. Hinson and the Opera Circuit, in 2006.

Lights From The Wheelhouse. Release Date 2006-04-24. If the Overlook Hotel from the movie The Shining had Muzak, it would most likely be this hauntingly opaque collaboration between singer/songwriter Micah P. Hinson and John-Mark Lapham, the t of the Earlies. The first fruits of their union are somewhat of a mixed bag: The romantic lament of opener Lila Blue lays down a bed of organ straight from midnight mass that slides into an outro of Texas twang guitar, just as Hinson’s wistful wonderings fade uneasily to black

The Late Cord: Lights From The Wheelhouse (2006). Texan duo John-Mark Lapham (studio wiz) and Micah P Hinson (deeply troubled singer) released this stunning mini-album serving of sad, restless mystery with long stretches of ambient darkness, etched by titles such as My Most Meaningful Relationships Are With Dead People.

Very interesting listen. May be hard to track down though. I found my copy second hand for $5 NZD. I wonder how many of these were made?
