United Kingdoms is an experimental album released in 1993 by the British electronic band Ultramarine on Blanco y Negro Records. The album fuses ambient music and electronica with elements of English folk music, and features guest vocals from Robert Wyatt. The song "Happy Land" uses a sample originating in "The Yellow Snake" by The Incredible String Band from their 1968 album Wee Tam and the Big Huge. The album spent one week on the UK Album Chart, peaking at No. 49.

United Kingdoms ‎(Cass, Album). Blanco Y Negro, Warner Music Manufacturing Europe. I recently bought Ultramarine's United Kingdoms. 10 years after its initial release the electronic part of this record sounds a bit dated. But in those 10 years nobody ever came near that folky electronic sound that made Ultramarine so special. What does 'dated' really mean then? A forgotten classic.

Fantastic third album by Ultramarine (second album in the electronic-folk style the exemplified on "Every Man And Woman Is A Star"). Like no other electronic of the era. So human, yet so Earthly and somehow above/beyond humanity.

This album has an average beat per minute of 114 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 92/146 BPM). See its BPM profile at the bottom of the page. Tracklist United Kingdoms. BPM Profile United Kingdoms. Ben was more successful on the music charts than Jackson's previous studio album, having charted within the top ten on the Billboard 200.

CD - Giant, Warner Bros. What should have been Ultramarine's breakout album, United Kingdom sank them with an audience expecting far-out ambient techno who received instead lukewarm folk-pop with only occasional electronic textures. The added vocals (from a heavy influence, the Soft Machine's Robert Wyatt) were a good idea, but United Kingdom sounds more like a Mike Oldfield LP from the 1970s rather than an electronic album of the 1990s.

Lush, sublime, completely original and so special; I love this album for so many reasons. It's perfect music for it's pure unadulterated listening pleasure, and also perfect for whatever time on a sunday/monday/tuesday when you get home :) The uplifting joy that fills all the tracks is something I have not heard captured so well by any other album; certainly some artists come close, exceed even, but for what this album represents - folk-electonica-acid house -whatever label you care to add - it is awesome, and still as great 20 years after it's release. The lyrics to the two tracks which have vocals reprinted in the sleeve ('Kingdom' & 'Happy Land') are a grand nod to English power/class struggles, a really fresh approach to anti-establishment music culture (for me at least.) And there is the downright funk of 'English Heritage', 'The Badger' & 'Dizzy Fox' (with ace weird-out vocal samples.) I have played tracks off this album all over the place and they always get people's feet moving, and played the album as a whole at the party-after-the-after-party and again everyone loves it.With the current surge in 'electro-swing' (Kormac, Caravan Palace etc.) and artists like Spoonbill making waves, Ultramarine deserve a nod for making this beautiful music when the ideas of such genres where just that; ideas.5 stars and a big smile!
