Description
LABYRINTH was commissioned by the Park Lane Group with funds from the Arts Council and was first performed in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London. The inspiration of the work is the myth of the Minotaur. Gatefold cover with matte finish, Vertigo 'Spaceship' centre labels, PE-lined inner sleeve.

Ian nucleus & carr - torrid zone the vertige recordings 1970-1975, 6 CD new+. The Ian Carr album Belladonna features a relatively compact small group of six musicians. For me one of the most interesting albums here is Belladonna's follower Labyrinth (1973), a more "widescreen" work which was inspired by the Greek myth of the the Minotaur. Vocalist Norma Winstone has quite a big role on a couple of tracks.

Great musicianship and very playable. Labyrinth" on the other hand is hard work. It has some truly great moments but they are sandwiched between passages of experimental nonsense. The sleeve notes actually quote Ian Carr as being apologetic for the compositional failings. Not a good sign but it shows he has integrity. I suspect that these two albums represent the best and the worst of Nucleus.
