Blind Guardian - At The Edge Of Time (2010).

After all the worlds Blind Guardian have taken us to since 1988, few would believe there are still new lands to discover in their music. Thankfully, At The Edge Of Time frees us all from the concept of terra firma and transports us into the dimension of time, where imagination knows no limits, where all worlds exist at once, and where all existence is drenched in song for all time. Check out the YouTube video below for samples from all of the tracks on At the Edge of Time.

Blind Guardian started their quest into the progressive metal universe a long time ago, but namely in songs such as Control the Divine and the first single A Voice in the Dark they successfully manage to shake off the pretentiousness of the sound, achieving their goal quite spontaneously and in an original manner. All I can say on this stage after a week full of spins is that the album will hardly disappoint fans of each period of the musical development of Blind Guardian and might just turn into the next step towards their recognition among the ranks of the top metal bands in a universal scale.

It’s interesting, though, how At The Edge Of Time still falls short of what Blind Guardian were trying to achieve. The feeling of being taken somewhere else entirely, and the illusion that everything going on actually has meaning in the grand scheme of things, is eerily absent from this album

BLIND GUARDIAN are back! The legends created an impressive record called At The Edge Of Time. Hansi Kürsch (vocals), André Olbrich (guitar), Marcus Siepen (guitar) and Frederik Ehmke (drums & percussion) prove that they have been and still are among the nists in harder music. And they return with another strike. At The Edge Of Time is the title of the new masterpiece and once again the focus is on bright and clear sounding orchestral compositions, that almost don’t need synthetic sounds.

Besides, one man's dated is another man's classicist. Although not quite essential, At the Edge of Time is an engaging disc that not only achieves a fair amount of diversity within a power metal/prog-metal framework - it is also one of the more consistent releases that Blind Guardian have provided in the 21st century. 2.
