London Calling, the third album by English rock band The Clash, was released on December 14th, 1979 in the United Kingdom and January of 1980 in the United States. London Calling has impressive subject matter coverage; topics range from racial conflict, unemployment, and drug use to safe sex, the tragic life of actor Montgomery Clift, and social displacement.
London Calling is the third studio album by English rock band The Clash. It was originally released as a double album in the United Kingdom on 14 December 1979 by CBS Records, and in the United States in January 1980 by Epic Records. The Clash recorded the album at Wessex Sound Studios in London during August, September and November 1979, following a change in management and a period of writer's block for Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, the band's lead vocalists, guitarists, and lyricists

London Calling : Without warning, the drums and guitars hit in unison, opening the song and the album with a heavy hammering groove. It’s like an inverted reggae song - downbeat chords instead of upstrokes - though Simonon’s spare bass boom gives it a slight dub feel.
London Calling is, I think, one of the 10 most important rock albums in history. This record is alive and still so fantastic today. The sound of "London Calling" is a perfect blend of punk power and pop sweetness. The album opens on the very cult song, "London Calling". In this album there is no waste: all the songs are perfect in melody and the lyrics are exceptional. The album is really the synthesis of Rock'N'Roll: it mixes rockab ', punk songs that call for riot, reggae.
Before, the Clash had experimented with reggae, but that was no preparation for the dizzying array of styles on London Calling. There's punk and reggae, but there's also rockabilly, ska, New Orleans R&B, pop, lounge jazz, and hard rock; and while the record isn't tied together by a specific theme, its eclecticism and anthemic punk function as a rallying call.
