It marked the fifth album by Paul McCartney since his departure from the Beatles in April 1970. Although sales were modest initially, its commercial performance was aided by two hit singles – Jet and Band on the Run – such that it became the top-selling studio album of 1974 in the United Kingdom and Australia, in addition to revitalising McCartney’s critical standing. It remains McCartney’s most successful album and the most celebrated of his post-Beatles works. Several of the songs on Band on the Run reflect themes of escape and freedom, while the structure of the album recalled the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road.

Paul’s fifth album since the break up of The Beatles, Band on the Run was made under difficult circumstances: band members Denny Seiwell and Henry McCullough left before recordings began in Lagos, Nigeria – which itself proved a challenging environment to work in. Despite the setbacks, Paul, Linda and Denny Laine persevered and Band on the Run – complete with its famous celebrity-packed cover art – proved a triumph.

Also on the bonus disc: an acoustic Band on the Run, a soundcheck of Jet, rehearsal recordings, alternate mixes and an unreleased song. Band On The Run is considered by many to be Paul's (and Wings) best album. It's definitly one of his best with a number of great songs - The classic "Jet","Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five", "Mrs. Vanderbilt","Let Me Roll It" and especially the iconic title track, "BOTR". I highly recommend it to newbies or fans who want to upgrade to a better sounding version.
