Pink Floyd were in Roma for several days in November and several more in December 1969 where they recorded and produced a large variety of music for the unpleasable supervisor, director Michelangelo Antonioni and his new movie Zabriskie Point. He knew of Pink Floyd since 1966 and really wanted the song Careful With That Axe, Eugene for his movie. Only 3 songs were ultimately used for the film and we were introduced to them with the release of the soundtrack in 1970 by MGM. 3 more songs, plus the longer Crumbling Land, surfaced in 1972 with Omayyad.

Pink Floyd were at the International Recording Studios in Roma from 15 November and in London again from 12 December to end of January 1970 where they recorded and produced a large variety of music for the unpleasable supervisor, director Michelangelo Antonioni and his new movie Zabriskie Point. He knew of Pink Floyd in 1966 during the making of Blow Up movie. He really wanted Careful With That Axe, Eugene for the main scene of his new movie. All four surfaced in 1972 with Omayyad. Thanks to Don Hall, now we know that the source used to make it was a multigenerational tape of the FM broadcast. 25 years later the extended soundtrack by Rhino Records gave us four more outtakes. The rest of the known outtakes came out a while later with the first half of the double CD bootleg named A Journey Through Time & Space.

MGM contacted Pink Floyd. After that Steve O'Rourke came to Rome alone during the first days of November 1969 to check and organise it all. All was done in few days, and Pink Floyd came he 15th of November with Pete Watts and Alan Stiles, cancelling some shows planned for their present tour. Antonioni and Don showed the movie to them several times with some scenes already scored, highlighting those without. At that point Steve and Roger Waters had a talk and asked Antonioni to try to score the whole movie. Other songs come from two celebrated unofficial sources, the bootlegs Omayyad and A Journey Though Time and Space. Recently, a better transfer of the ZP outtakes portion was made from the master tape used for Omayyad just for this work, our 2010 Master.

As this album was released in the first half of 1972, the year in which tmoq started using the farm pig label on all of their releases, IT is only the earliest pressings with the 1 & 2 labels. Copies with mottled or swirly vinyl patterns are particularly rare and very expensive. One label had a large farm pig logo with the album title and the tracklisting on the other. Not many of these were made and although a slightly later pressing these are now quite sought after.
