The '70s sometimes get a bad rap: Often these years are remembered as the musical era that brought us disco at its absolute gaudiest. The ’70s sometimes get a bad rap: Often these years are remembered as the musical era that brought us disco at its absolute gaudiest. But there was far more going on in the decade than polyester, sequins and cocaine; the 1970s saw the rise of the singer/songwriter, the birth of punk rock, reggae’s infiltration of the mainstream and the long, strange trip led by some of psychedelia’s finest. In fact, it’s a decade so musically diverse, we had quite a time whittling it down to our top albums. 68. Nick Drake, Pink Moon (1972) Few albums on this list have aged as well as Nick Drake ’s final album from 1972, recorded in a pair of post-midnight sessions with just Drake and producer John Wood.

Definitely the best Pink Floyd album. That dark side of the moon was voted best album.

These overlooked 70s rock heroes moved audiences, made fantastic albums, then faded, but are still fondly thought of by diehards. Remember them with love. Their second album, 1971’s II, was Focus’ breakthrough, delivering an international hit in the fierce ‘Hocus Pocus’. Their third album delivered the elegant descending melody of ‘Sylvia’, winning further fans worldwide, with Akkerman drawing admiration. The guitarist left in 1976 but returned several times; Focus are still on the road. Robin Trower, Wishbone Ash. Akkerman wasn’t alone: the 70s adored a guitar hero. Robin Trower, formerly of Procol Harum, was seen by some listeners as the heir to Jimi Hendrix.

and an absurdly complicated stage show. The melodic largesse was such that the album even had a smash hit single that completely owned the radio: Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2). The album also felt like an ending, even if everyone involved had a lot more music left in front of them. Roger Waters’ reach would far exceed his grasp in the next decade (put on Radio . sometime to see how low he’d sink), leaving The Wall as the moment where he was able to realize his craziest dreams.

Echoes - The Best of Pink Floyd' (2001). This cover features images and concepts from previous albums: the pig from the 'Animals' album, the cow from 'Atom Heart Mother', the swimmer and liner bag from 'Wish You Were Here', the maid from 'A Momentary Lapse Of Reason' and the masks from 'Is There Anybody Out There?'. This is an image 7 of 15. 'A Momentary Lapse Of Reason' (1987). This image of a swimmer in the Yuma Desert, titled 'The Meaning of Life', was first seen in Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' songbook designed by Storm Thorgerson. It shows an absence of purpose - he just swims on going nowhere. This is an image 10 of 15.

Mumdance: I used to listen to this album on rotation when I was younger & heavily into BMX & skateboarding, so it reminds me of a lot of good times every time I hear it. Steve Ignorant has one of the best and most archetypal vocals in punk in my opinion & he shines on this album. I really like how it’s quite shambolic and all over the place, but at the same time fiercely intelligent and experimental in some places. pursued in the second half of the ’70s.

One of the 70-ies massive influence bands от HarryRoat.
