Dare Iz a Darkside is the second studio album by American rapper Redman. It was released on November 22, 1994, by Def Jam Recordings. The album debuted at 13 on the US Billboard 200. In January 1995, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), exceeding the sales of 500,000 copies in the United States. The album cover features Redman buried in the ground up to his neck, a reference to the cover of Funkadelic's 1971 album Maggot Brain.

Well, Dare Iz a Darkside illustrates this better than any of his other '90s albums - nowhere else has Redman ever been this odd, to be quite frank. It's fairly evident here that he'd been listening to his George Clinton records and that he wasn't fronting when he alluded to "A Million and 1 Buddah Spots" that he'd visited. In fact, this album often divides his fans.

A Million And 1 Buddah Spots (Album Version). 6. Noorotic (Album Version). Tonight's Da Nite (Remix). Other Albums by Redman.

Still, it wasn’t until Dare Iz a Darkside that Redman really began to explore his stunted, blunted unconscious. Returning for a few songs is Erick Sermon, the co-producer of Red’s debut, but Redman handles the bulk of the production himself. The sound here is slowed-down and subterranean, but even as the atmosphere becomes brain-blitzing and hazy, the album just coaxes you into its mist. Even in the groundbreaking days of 1992, Redman’s Whut? Thee Album stood out with its blend of extra-deep jazz and funk loops and Red’s expertly outlandish rhyme skills. Still, it wasn’t until Dare Iz a Darkside that Redman really began to explore his stunted, blunted unconscious.
