Description

The new album Let The Dancers Inherit The Party out no.

Let the Dancers Inherit the Party is a studio album by British Sea Power. It was released on 31 March 2017, licensed from the band's own Golden Chariot label to Caroline International. Recording for the album primarily took place in Brighton at Brighton Electric Recording Studios, with additional recording and mixing at Voltaire Road Studios in Clapham. Early work on the album, including recording and song-writing, was done in diverse locations including Lympne Castle and on Skye.

As if to stabilize its weighty subject matter, Let the Dancers Inherit the Party is a remarkably steady album, at times to a fault.

British Sea Power’s first album of new material in four years was written against a backdrop of what guitarist Martin Noble calls politicians perfecting the art of unabashed lying, social media echo chambers and electronic toys to keep us befuddled, and it brims with pre-Brexit panic. However, there is more hope than despair, as the songs look to ordinary people to escape international lunacy.

Opening with a bracing one-two of arena-ready indie rock ( Bad Bohemian, International Space Station ), British Sea Power’s sixth album quickly endorses their claim that it’s their most musically direct record. They’ve retained much of their skittish adventure too, wrapping indelible hooks in cosmic soul balladry ( Want to Be Free ), chiming guitar pop ( Don’t Let the Sun Get in the Way ), and jagged funk-rock ( Keep on Trying (Sechs Freunde)). However, with two soundtrack albums along the way – From The Sea To The Land Beyond in 2013 and Happiness in 2015 – plus the brass band reshuffle of previous songs on Sea Of Brass in 2015, it’s been full steam ahead as usual for BSP. Yes, very much so. Just listening now. Very quiet indeed but quality good overall.
