Machineries of Joy is a studio album by British indie rock band British Sea Power. It was released in April 2013 on the Rough Trade record label. The album's title track was released as a single in February 2013 in advance of the album release. To promote the album, the band announced a UK tour in April 2013. The album reached on the UK indie album chart, and on the regular chart. It also debuted at on the Irish indie album chart. Rough Trade announced the track listing as follows.

A nod to author Ray Bradbury's 1964 short story collection of the same name, British Sea Power's sixth long-player, the measured and oddly comforting Machineries of Joy, finds the bookish, self-mythologizing, and willfully nostalgic yet remarkably buoyant indie rockers doing what they do best: being British Sea Power. Less immediate than 2008’s Do You Like Rock Music? and more in tune with the bands’ pioneer spirit than 2011’s Valhalla Dancehall, Machineries of Joy, as is the case with any BSP album, requires more than a cursory spin to reveal its riches.

Mission statements don’t get more succinct than we are magnificent machineries of joy, the title-track chorus that warmly welcomes us into British Sea Power’s fifth album. And when the epic tune’s hypnotic, string-swept rhythm kicks into high gear, the UK art rockers deliver on that promise. But the joy takes many different forms: Monsters of Sunderland is a whirling dervish of brass fanfares and bouncing-ball drumbeats; Radio Goddard retains the horn section’s services for a lush acoustic serenade illuminated by angelic backing vocals. Machineries of Joy British Sea Power.

British Sea Power are a band that journalists love, if only for the reason that they give us so much more to write about than music. Let's face it; we're all bored to tears with typing out "crashing guitars," "impassioned vocals" and "thunderous ocarina solo. So if we can witter on instead about ornithology and Scapa Flow, make comparisons with old Powell and Pressburger films and muse knowingly on the typography of pre-war public information notices, then we're going to grab the band in question with both inky hands and give them glowing coverage. But Machineries of Joy has a depth and directness that could easily see it becoming their defining album. Oh, BSP, I still love you! Hitch up the caravan and air out the sheets; a second honeymoon could well be on the cards.
