Curiosum is the ninth album by the electronic music outfit Cluster. It was also the final collaboration between Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius before an eight-year hiatus. Curiosum was recorded in May 1981 at Hamet Hof in Vienna, Austria and released later that year. The album was Cluster's last release for Sky. It lives up to its name, with the seven relatively short tracks of offbeat and unusual melodies had started.

Shop Vinyl and CDs and complete your Cluster collection. All I need to say is, that the vinyl reissue from 2009 is a soundwise a very poor quality. You'd better try to get one of the original older releases.

Curiosum, released in 1981, just as some of these bands were moving from arty cult status to mainstream stardom, sounds like Moebius and Roedelius had started taking cues from the groups they'd initially inspired. Gone are the side-long experiments of early Cluster albums like Zwei Osteri. In their place, Moebius and Roedelius craft seven surprisingly short discrete instrumental pieces; four are under five minutes, and none reach the ten-minute mark.

Experimental Rock Cluster.

A good album with one of their best tracks ("Oh, Odessa"), and several other good tracks marred by a curious (no pun intended) choice of post-recording mixing. The result is rather strange, enigmatic and static. It's less organic and much more mechanical and minimalist.
