They announced the release of Damage and Joy, which will be coming out on March 24, 2017. As previously reported, the duo planned to snap an 18-year drought between albums in 2017 with the release of a new record that British music industry fixture Alan McGee, chief of the Creation label, has already deemed "a big deal" and "unbelievable. Album · 2017 · 14 Songs. With a catalog as peerless as JAMC’s, Jim and William Reid have never needed to reinvent the wheel. Damage and Joy, their first album since 1998’s Munki, revels in the simple pleasures that the band always has: girls, vices, and fuzz-toned rock ’n’ roll. Laidback duets with Isobel Campbell ("Song for a Secret") and Sky Ferreira ("Black and Blues") are buffeted by glorious walls of sound, while reworked tracks like "All Things Pass or The Two of Us are hard-partying rave-ups that would sit seamlessly amongst their groundbreaking noise-pop classics.

Even after the magnesium flare of Psychocandy, the Mary Chain had their greatest effect in brevity; the more you get of them, the less forceful they feel. It’s a lot better than it might have been, but not quite as great as one might have hoped.
