Great Voices: Fritz Wunderlich.
Fritz Wunderlich’s lyricism, boundless musicianship and exquisite diction made him one of the truly great tenors of the 20th century and probably of all time. Deutsche Grammophon commemorates the 50th anniversary of his death with the new album "The 50 Greatest Tracks".

Great Moments Of Fritz Wunderlich CD3 (2000).
Friedrich "Fritz" Karl Otto Wunderlich (26 September 1930 – 17 September 1966) was a German lyric tenor, famed for his singing of the Mozart repertory and various lieder. He died in an accident when he was only 35. Wunderlich was born in Kusel in the Palatinate, Germany. His mother was a violinist and his father was a choirmaster. For a short time, the family kept the inn "Emrichs Bräustübl" (Emrich's Brewing Cottage)
Fritz Wunderlich is one of those singers whose voice, while you are listening to it, seems to eclipse all others. Ravishingly beautiful, perfectly produced, radiant, even, mellow, it flows out with effortless ease like a golden stream. I chose this album because it had particular tracks I wanted. It is, however, a double album which is filled up with a fair bit of Viennese Operetta. This music is not much to my taste and seems rather middle of the road to me. If you can find a single disc option that has all your favourites on it, I would go for that.
