Dismal Euphony was a melodic black metal band from Norway that mixed styles including gothic metal, black metal and classical music. The history of Dismal Euphony began in 1992 in Stavanger, Norway by bassist Ole K. Helgesen and drummer Kristoffer Vold Austrheim under the name The Headless Children, a cover band of Slayer and Kreator. A year later singer Erik Borgen and guitarist Kenneth Bergsagel joined the group.

Dismal Euphony would not peak until their 4th and final album, the brilliant and unorthodox Python Zero of 2001, but they produced two respectable melodic black metal albums in Soria Moria Slott and Autumn Leaves. Their third full-length, 1999's All Little Devils, is often lamented as some sort of gothic metal sellout, but this is pretty far from the truth, it's an album that takes the bands roots and adopts them to a more raucous, opera house environment. My own mediocre reaction to the album has dissipated over the years, and now I consider it their second best release  . "Lunatic" is a hybrid of melodic death and black metal.

During the next two years, Dismal Euphony released two full-length albums, Soria Moria Slott and Autumn Leaves - The Rebellion of Tides.

Taking cues from the so-called "symphonic black metal" style - specifically, bands like Therion and the Gathering, who prominently employ female vocalists - Dismal Euphony conjure up a dark, otherworldly vision of elegant despair on All Little Devils.
