Ludwig Van Beethoven's nine symphonies cover pretty much every facet of human existence in one way or another. In other words, they're pretty indispensable. Quick volume changes, explosive energy and the odd experiment (try the free-form opening of the fourth movement) - it's a promising start. Beethoven timeline part 1: 1770-1802 . Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Things are starting to progress. By this point, the Beethoven tics are starting to fall into place. So, that means we get an exceptionally bold and dramatic opening, lightning-quick strings and, in the second movement, some seriously mournful moments.

If Haydn's or Mozart's music, and especially their symphonies, were composed to be more entertaining than profound, Beethoven gets us involved through everything he expresses, compelling us to take a stand.

They are among the most technically demanding piano music ever written. By 1837, Liszt appears to have completed the transcriptions of the fifth, sixth and seventh symphonies, of which the fifth and sixth were published by Breitkopf & Härtel and the seventh by Tobias Haslinger.

They more than succeed. This is hands down the greatest recording of the great Beethoven 5th out there. As a classical musician with interests beyond, the best way I can put it is that "it rocks" supremely. Beethoven's 7th is more rhythmic than lyrical, I think, and Kleiber makes this symphony very powerful. Thanks DG for re-issuing this legendary recording in blu-ray, especially because the DVD-audio version produced in 2004 has been very rare (and ridiculously expensive!) on the .

After having played Beethoven 9 for auditions and other things and listened to it be incrediably ruined by different orchestras or the different versions that have been arranged I can't help but be more than a bit sick of Beethoven 9, it's a great symphony; wonderfully written, great, expansive melodies and wide appeal but I'm sorry I can't make.
