Never seems to get any respect. Being dismissed as both a second tier death metal band and a sell-out for this album, they covered the full spectrum of capable scorn cast by metal fans. Despite their death metal releases getting gradually worse with each new disc and not being the most unique, they were still worthwhile. Upon the release of Odium, the death metal was significantly toned down with the vocals being the most identifiable remnant of their soon to be gone sound. Its pretty clear that Morgoth new exactly what it was doing when it released Feel Sorry for the Fanatic, it doesn’t get any more obvious that the album title. It seems amazing that a band criticized early on for sounding to much like Death of all bands, would release this album of anything BUT Death metal.

The oversaturation of the word weird is something that can be easily witnessed, as it seems like anything, provided it contains experimental elements, will be thrown into a box, most likely labeled eccentric. Almost anything, from the disturbed births of Mr. Bungle and early Butthole Surfers to the slightly out there experiments of any run of the mill oddball coalition or this week’s gimmick band, is considered odd and it leads to the numbing of these descriptors’ poignance. The reason I start my writing with that paragraph is simple, my words must not be misconstrued. While Feel Sorry for the Fanatic is kooky and offbeat, it is far from good. The band known for death metal releases like Resurrection Absurd and Cursed did try something new here and, when the album is viewed in a bubble, might even look risky.
