Nevermore's 2000 effort, Dead Heart in a Dead World, was not my first album from the Seattle band. But along with This Godless Endeavor, the album is definitely one of my favourites. What makes Nevermore's fourth full length release stand out the most is by far the solid, heavy riffing and well constructed guitar solos from Jeff Loomis. The aggressive sound is also very effective and another selling point of the band's sound. Once again, Nevermore delivers with a very consistent album

Nevermore has been named in more genres than Children of Bodom. Nevermore however unlike Bodom has stay true to their sound. The band consisted of Jeff Loomis, Warrel Dane, Van Williams, and Jim Shepard. This was the CD that got me truly addicted to nevermore and made me a Neverhead. The band could be described as Progressive thrash. Warrel Dane has always been considered as one of metal's best vocalists and this album shows it. In Dead Heart in a Dead World, Warrel Dane has a vocal solo that sends chills down your spine and he continues to rape your soul through the rest of the song. The lyrics are about drug possession, government, and religion rejection. Warrel Dane may be a turn off for some people, but give it a chance to get used to his voice you'll love it forever!

Bold and inventive, the combination of nu-metal and '80s golden-era metal riffing propels Dead Heart in a Dead World and Nevermore ahead of the American indie metal pack. The River Dragon Has Come" and "We Disintegrate" are just two superior examples of Loomis' dissonant, detuned grooves. Dane's moaning almost sinks mellower numbers like "Insignificant" and the title track, but Loomis provides the buoyancy these otherwise dull songs need to become listenable - in fact, they're almost interesting

Dead Heart in a Dead World is the fourth studio album by progressive metal band Nevermore, released in October 2000. In a style comparable to a darker, heavier Queensrÿche, its songs range topics such as criticism of drug possession penalties to rejection of religion. The album also features a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's hit, "The Sound of Silence". It is also notable for being Nevermore's first record utilizing seven-string guitars.
