Starcastle is the first studio album by American progressive rock band Starcastle. Collins also called the album's leadoff track, "Lady Of The Lake", "a wonderfully sprawling song" and an "epic". All songs written by Starcastle. Side 1. "Lady Of The Lake" - 10:26. Elliptical Seasons" - 4:27.
After this album, Starcastle was able to release one more album that was an almost complete sell out. After that, they went into hiding until after the current decade started. I admit I never heard their album released in 2007 "Song of Times" and someday I might break down and hear it, but as far as the 70s were concerned, this was the last great album by a great band. To The Fire Wind," the final vocal composition, is another appropriate vehicle for Strater to display his Rickenbacker mastery, his fingers not stopping for one second as the tune blazes along in a Prog-Rock frenzy of spectacular keys, guitars, and harmonies.

The album leads off with the wonderfully sprawling song that broke them on local radio in the hometown of Champaign, the ten-minute Moogs and Merlin epic, "Lady of the Lake. The closing instrumental, "Nova," also gives the band's very tight rhythm section a chance to shine, with Tassler opening the piece with a brief but effective solo.

Starcastle was one of the popular and well-respected bands of the American progressive rock of the 70's. This band was known for their Yes influenced epochs in the seventies. This band contained tight epic instrumentation with the somewhat dreamy and fantasy lyrics/singing of Terry Luttrell. Their singer has a [Jon Anderson[-like kind of voice, the vocal perfection beloved by American bands and an instrumental sophistication. The music was original in terms of composition lyrics and performance.

Listening to Starcastle triggers a nostalgic feeling. The album has a very light-hearted approach. If one would describe what this sounds like, the best words to go with would be "Happy-progressive". During the nearly 40 minutes of music on this album, Starcastle showcases amazing musicianship throughout the album. Whether it be the funky bass and guitar displayed within Elliptical Seasons and Forces, the space odyssey like Stargate instrumental piece, or the very contemporary, yet technical Sunfields, Starcastle displays some diversity, while at the same time, sticking to their style.
