Description

The Orchard Music (от лица компании ".

Song Islands gathers most of their singles and EPs, including hard-to-find releases on tiny labels like Coming in Second and Instatone Brand, and proves that even at the beginning, the group's approach was firmly in place. Early works like "Bass Drum Dream" and "Where It's Hotter Pts. 1, 2 & E" feature the powerful, distorted drums, strummy acoustic guitars, droning keyboards, and pretty, naive vocals that define the Microphones' sound.

A compilation of 21 songs from scattered 7-inch singles, Song Islands is alternately lovely, interesting, and noisy. Most appealing to completists, it presents everything from deconstructive percussive experiments to ragged choral works featuring K Records recording artists Mirah and Khaela Maricich (the Blow) and Knw-Yr-Own's Karl Blau (D+), as well as Kyle Field (Little Wings) and Calvin Johnson (Dub Narcotic Sound System and Beat Happening).

The Microphones were an American rock band from Olympia, Washington, founded in 1996 and ended in 2003, with a short reunion following in 2007. The band was fronted by Phil Elvrum (who now spells his surname Elverum). Elverum was the principal songwriter and producer behind the band's albums, but he has also collaborated with other local musicians on his other recordings and tours. Many of Elverum's recordings from this period were released by the label K Records

The Microphones were a lo-fi band based in Olympia, Washington, and fronted by Phil Elvrum. Elvrum is the principal member of the band, but he has collaborated with many other musicians on his records. Style:MLA Chicago APA. "Song Islands Album. Missing lyrics by The Microphones? Song Islands is one of those thorns in a collector's side, whereby their fealty to a band's every release is dashed by a singles collection that rewards the infidels for their lazy indifference. But if you haven't yet had the pleasure of owning a Microphones release, then this primer is a god gift of discordant pop gems and plaintive, tugging songcraft. With 21 tracks to cover, I won't punish you with a grueling play-by-play. Despite its breadth, most of the songs are cleft between noisier excursions and stripped-down numbers reminiscent of Beat Happening or the Field Mice.

Notes

This first vinyl appearance of the singles/rarities collection from 2002 kicks off the series of reissues of all 5 Microphones albums we’re putting out throughout 2013. These songs are islands, unrelated to any “real” albums, created between 1997 and 2002, mostly in/of Olympia, Wash., and collected on CD by K. There are some songs that are well known and some songs that are super weird moments in the studio, less well-known. A broad archipelago.

This version has been remastered by John Golden and all polished and made sturdy. It includes a new fold out explanatory poster sheet thing, a download card, heavy old-style gatefold jackets, and a foil stamped obi strip. It feels good in the hand.
