Sea Change is the eighth studio album by American musician Beck, released on September 24, 2002 by Geffen Records. Recorded over a two-month period in Los Angeles with producer Nigel Godrich, the album features themes of heartbreak and desolation, solitude, and loneliness. For the album, much of Beck's trademark recondite and ironic lyrics were replaced by simpler, more sincere lyrical content. He also eschewed the heavy sampling of his previous albums for live instrumentation.

Genre: Alternative Rock. Overall Opinion: One of those mystical unicorn albums can change your day the second it starts spinning. It is a masterpiece and will go down as his most treasured work by many. 86. Good songs from Beck but the star here is Nigel Godrich, absolutely amazing production.

Beck - Sea Change on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums List. Beck, instead of a sole acoustic guitar and his moaning singing, started to write full songs for this album with grand, creaky orchestrations occupying much or all of the songs. This was a good move, especially since Beck, while an incredible performer, couldn't really pull off most of the songs he's written by himself. Beck separates these songs with stunning accuracy, submitting his slow, dreamy and achingly beautiful country ballads with simplistic, but incredible, efforts into songs that reminisce of the good ol' days, when folk had a place in music. Beck also seems to have a good idea of what orchestral songs need, as he plunges into waves of strings on appropriate songs, while not making them too overwhelming.
