Space Wrangler is the first studio album by the Athens, GA based band Widespread Panic. It was first released by a small Atlanta label, Landslide Records, on February 4, 1988. It was later reissued four times, the first two times by Capricorn Records/Warner Bros. Records, and, in 2001, by Zomba Music Group. Space Wrangler was reissued for the fourth time on vinyl for one day - July 15, 2014 - as a special reissue through Think Indie distribution, that was sold only at independent record stores.

This reissue boasts three new tracks, one of them a lengthy medley; more to the point, it's a remarkably confident album that belies its tiny budget. The band hit the ground running, tip their hat to and blow a raspberry at Mark Knopfler, and generally show everyone a good time.

The Athens, Georgia quintet Widespread Panic deserves the name Jam Band probably more than any of their fellow piers (Minus The Grateful Dead of course). They have toured non stop for practically eight-teen years. They have gotten through line up changes, tour cancelations, album flops, unpopularity and even death. Panic starts the album of with a rythmic piece entitled "Chilly Water". The track has a slightly dark and mysterious sense to it. Houser's playing is very unique compared to other tracks on this album. Not as much noodled, and he plays in a backed up leading fashion. Schools' strait bass line, leads the song and is quite catchy.

Widespread Panic is a rock band which formed in Athens, Georgia, United States in 1986. The band currently consists of John Bell (vocals, guitar), Jimmy Herirng (guitar), Dave Schools (bass), John "JoJo" Hermann (keyboards), Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz (percussion) and Todd Nance (drums). The band has previously included Michael Houser (guitar) and George McConnell (guitar) and have released 11 albums. Michael Houser and John Bell ('JB') met at the University of Georgia at Athens between 1982 and 1984, and began playing music together around town as a duet.
