Little Joe the Wrangler is a classic American cowboy song, written by N. Howard "Jack" Thorp. It appeared in Thorp's 1908 Songs of the Cowboys, which was the first published collection of cowboy songs. Jules Verne Allen (April 1, 1883, Waxahachie, Texas - July 10, 1945) was the "The Original Singing Cowboy". Based on the biographical sketch that was included in the book he wrote "Cowboy Lore", he lived the words he wrote about. He started working with cattle when he was just ten years old in Jack County, Texas. In the 1890s, he was a horse wrangler, crossing the plains five times.
