Label: Albatros (2) ‎– VPA 8279. Traditional Music Of The Gizra People Of Papua, New Guinea. B17. Song About A Bird. Australia (Songs Of The Aborigines And Music Of Papua, New Guinea) ‎(CD, Comp).

collector: Wolfgang Laade originally released on LP as Lyrichord LLST-73318 recorded: 1963 possibly out of print. Field recordings by Wolfgang Laade, Professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of Zurich, sponsored by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies. Australia is a collection of thirty-six songs, twenty-nine of them Australian and the last seven from Papua New Guinea.

Australia: Songs of the Aborigines and Music of Papua, New Guinea is a reissue of interesting field recordings of two distinct Aboriginal cultures - particularly, The Malkari "Centipede" and "Snake" songs; the Bunggul dance songs "Seagull" and "Spider," with their rhythmically innovative didgeridoo accompaniments; the haunting Gizra People's flute piece announcing the coming of the Southeast winds during the rainy season; the surprising, sudden dissonances of the "Two Flutes" piece; and the evocative "Magician Song" sung by magi.

Australian Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander music includes the music of Aboriginal Australians and social, cultural and ceremonial observances of these people, down through the millennia of their individual and collective histories to the present day, and has existed for 40,000 years.

Included are songs and dances such as the badara, a traditional dance performed at social events and holidays that is characterized by an elastic syncopatio. reated by the drum being slightly faster than the metre of the son. .Among native instruments featured are the burari (flute), the dárombi (similar to a jew’s harp), tátaro (bundled panpipe), and búrubur (hour-glass-shaped drum). Liner notes provide an overview of the history and music of South New Guinea, track notes, pictures, and musical transcriptions. Bosavi: Rainforest Music from Papua New Guinea. Man's Early Musical Instruments. Folk Ballads of the English-Speaking World.

The music of Papua New Guinea has a long history. After independence, the outside world knew little of the diverse peoples' traditional music genres. The first commercial release to see an international audience did not occur until 1991, when percussionist Mickey Hart's Voices of the Rainforest was released. After 1872, foreigners introduced Christian hymns, including Gregorian chanting. Peroveta anedia, ute and taibubu, all forms of Polynesian music, were also introduced in this period.

Australian Aboriginal peoples: Survey of the history, society, and culture of the Australian Aboriginal peoples, who are one of the two distinct Indigenous cultural groups of Australia. It is generally held that they originally came from Asia via insular Southeast Asia and have been in Australia for at least 45,000–50,000 years. It has long been conventionally held that Australia is the only continent where the entire Indigenous population maintained a single kind of adaptation-hunting and gathering-into modern times. Some scholars now argue, however, that there is evidence of the early practice of both agriculture and aquaculture by Aboriginal peoples.

The Aborigines’ new self-confidence made the establishment of a civil rights movement possible according to the role model of the Blacks in the USA. Another step forward was the Land Rights Act“ in 1976. The possession of their reservations was assured to the Aborigines and they received claim to tradition space lying outside. For the Aborigines each part of the day reflects the history of the creation. Every day they live into recollection when which place was created. In the stories of the Aborigine' tribes the ancestors adventured new things and discovered behaviour which brought either luck or devastation. Art The deep spirituality also is shown in the music and painting, but naturally also in the dances of the Natives. Particularly the rock painting is important.
