Peter Richard Tahourdin (27 August 1928 – 28 July 2009) was an English-born Australian composer. His compositions range from orchestral (5 symphonies) and chamber music to choral and educational music, as well as music for the opera and ballet. Without being his principal contribution, he was one of the pioneers in the field of electronic music. Peter Tahourdin was born in Bramdean, Hampshire in 1928. He was the second child, and only son, of Major Victor Tahourdin and Veronica Price.

He studied composition with Richard Arnell at Trinity College of Music in London, graduating in 1952. In the years that followed, various concert and broadcast performances of his music were given in England, Holland and Canada. Tahourdin came to Australia in 1964 and was appointed visiting composer to the University of Adelaide.

Peter Tahourdin came to be one of Australia’s most important composers. Born in Bramdean, England, he was already established in the United Kingdom when he migrated to Australia in 1964 to be Visiting Composer at The University of Adelaide. The works he had composed for the BBC and other musical organisations survive in his personal papers, held in the National Library’s Manuscripts collection, and testify to his growing reputation.
