Originally released as a single in February 1965, "Psychotic Reaction" was only able to initially attract an enthusiastic California audience
Psychotic Reaction is the only studio album by the American garage rock band Count Five, released on October 1966, through Double Shot Records DSS5001. It features the hit single Psychotic Reaction, number five on the Billboard charts in October 1966, and The Who covers, My Generation and "Out in the Street". Previously to recording sessions, Count Five was rejected by several record labels before they got signed to the Los Angeles-based Double Shot Records in 1965.
Psychotic Reaction" is a song by the American garage rock band Count Five, released in June 1966 on their debut studio album of the same name. It peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was among the first successful acid (or psychedelic) rock songs, containing the characteristics that would come to define acid rock: the use of feedback and distortion replacing early rock music's more melodic electric guitars. In Canada, the song reached No. 3 on October 31, 1966.

Count Five - Psychotic Reaction. Album: Rarities: The Double Shot Years, 2013. 60's Garage Rock, this is actually from a pretty well known band (In comparison to the stuff I usually upload), so forgive the intrusion into the comparative mainstream. I hope you are at the very least gleaning some sort of amusement.
And frankly, despite Bangs' wild-eyed prose in praise of Psychotic Reaction, there would be some justice to that disappearance: this album really isn't all that great! There's the title track, of course, a total Yardbirds' ripoff that turns out to be better than any of that overrated band's patented rave-ups, thanks in huge part to Kenn Ellner's brilliantly bratty strangulated whine of a voice. Then there's the mysterious "Pretty Big Mouth," a swamp rock groove with the most bizarre lyrics on the entire album.
